The objectives of the course are to enable those who support children’s care activities to gain the skills to:

  • Promote healthy eating
  • Create a safe environment for young children
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Contribute to equality of opportunity in young children’s development
  • Provide a wide range of play activities

Content

This course consists of five units of study:

Unit 1: Encouraging children to eat healthily

  • Understand the importance of healthy eating for children
  • Understand how to plan and prepare activities and experiences to encourage children to eat healthily
  • Be able to reflect and assess on own personal skills in supporting healthy eating activities

Unit 2: Create a safe environment for young children

  • Understand how to carry out a safety check on the environment.
  • Understand how to respond to potentially hazardous or emergency situations.
  • Understand how to respond to common childhood illnesses and situations which may affect a child’s well-being.

Unit 3: Working in a team

  • Understand the features of good team work
  • Understand the need to work co-operatively with others in the team
  • Understand how team members value each other’s contributions
  • Be able to carry out a review of their team work

Unit 4: Contribute to the equality of opportunity in support of young children’s development

  • Understand own role in promoting children’s rights
  • Understand how to respond appropriately to the additional needs on individual children

Unit 5: Provide a range of appropriate play activities for young children

  • Be able to plan a range of appropriate play activities for young children
  • Be able to carry out a range of appropriate play activities for young children
  • Understand the need to clear away activities with a group of young children

Course Endorsement

At the end of this course successful learners will be given the option to receive a Certificate of Achievement from the Quality Licence Scheme and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).

The course has been endorsed under the Quality Licence Scheme.  This means that Kendal Publishing Ltd has undergone an external quality check to ensure that the organisation and the courses it offers, meet defined quality criteria. The completion of this course alone does not lead to a regulated qualification* but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills gained. Method of Study

Paper Based Version

The course comes to you as a paper-based pack delivered by courier.

You will be given guidance through the Study Guide on the nuts and bolts of studying and submitting assignments.

Postal assignments cannot be accepted without prior permission from the tutor.

 

Online Version

Our online courses are fully digitised versions of the paper-courses, so you can study on any PC or smart device when connected to the internet.

As with the paper course, your online learning programme is completely flexible, so you can study at a pace that suits you.

All of our online course content is broken down into bite size chunks to make your learning more manageable and effective.

 

Method of Assessment

Your course of study is broken down into units and sections, each of which contains lessons, activities and test papers.

You will be assessed by a series of written assignments, marked by your tutor.

Course Length Information

This course can be taken over a 12 month period, but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.

Tutor Support

You will have access to a tutor via email who will mark your work and guide you through the course and will assist you with any problems you may have. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.
