23banner

At UK Distance Learning & Publishing we have three Event Management and Wedding Planning courses, all designed to prepare learners for a career in this exciting industry. The courses come in Levels 2, 3 and 4, so whatever your previous experience or qualifications, we should have an option that’s suitable for you. In this article, we’ll go through some of the things that you can expect to learn in these Event and Wedding Planning courses. We’ll also explain how these courses work, and how can be used to help you start a career.

Event Planning Courses

Setting up a Business

One of the main things that all of our Event and Wedding courses cover is the essentials of setting up your own business. Some of these lessons could be applied to any business, but there are things you need to know which would only apply to an event business. This is especially true of areas like staffing. For instance, most event planners won’t need a full time staff. Most of the work (sorry to break it to you) will be done by one person: you. However, when the event day itself comes around, you’ll need a whole host of people! Our courses will explain to you how to hire temporary staff, pay for contractors, and explain the different kinds of tax you’ll have to pay.

Different Kinds of Event

There are lots of different kinds of events. We use the term ‘Event and Wedding courses’ in order to highlight the type of event that most people will think of: weddings. However, in your career as a planner you may find that much of your time is taken up with slightly less glamorous affairs. Corporate events are the bread and butter of the event planning world. You’ll have to deal with all sorts of different clients, all wanting different kinds of events that are personalised to meet their specific needs. Whether it’s a conference, an awards ceremony, a presentation, or an executive away day, you will be expected to put together a package that will satisfy the demands of your client. Our courses will help you learn what to expect, and give you guidance on the things you can do to make life simpler for yourself. This includes working on different kinds of venue, setting up procedures for registration, and other simple but vitally important areas.

How the Courses Work

The most important thing for UK Distance Learning to consider when designing a course is that we get the assessments right. We can give you all the information in the world, but unless we give you the right assessments, we have no way of knowing whether you’ve understood it, or will be able to put it to practical use. That’s why the assignments in our Event and Wedding Planning courses have been designed to test how you would respond to real-world scenarios. We invite you to plan events yourself in response to specific client briefs. This includes devising health and safety procedures, choosing appropriate venues, and all the other things you might expect.
