This NCFE Certificate in Principles of Dementia Care home study course is the ideal programme for individuals wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of Dementia and Person-Centred Care.

This nationally accredited qualification is designed to provide individuals with an understanding of the different forms of Dementia that may be encountered and how to support individuals with this illness through Person-Centred Care.The programme covers issues such as the influence of positive communication methods, issues around the use of medication and the importance of providing appropriate activities.

Course Description

Upon successful completion you will have achieved a nationally recognised, QCF listed qualification at Level 2

Course Content

Unit 1: Dementia awareness

This unit explains what dementia is, the most common types of dementia and the causes associated with them. It also looks at how other people can have an impact on an individual with dementia.

Unit 2: The person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia

Learners will look at the knowledge and understanding required to enable an individual with dementia to experience well-being. The role of carers is also covered.

Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia

Learners will gain awareness of the different communication needs and abilities of individuals with dementia in order to encourage positive interaction.

Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

The learners will be introduced to equality, diversion and inclusion which are all important when practicing the person-centred care approach.

Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach

This unit helps learners understand the medication available to and appropriate for individuals with dementia, and explores specific needs that some individuals may have when receiving medication.

Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia

Learners will look at the different behaviours of individuals with dementia and how to respond to certain types of behaviour.

Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

This unit explores how engaging in social activities to enhance mental, physical and social well-being can benefit individuals with dementia.

NCFE Certificate in Principles of Dementia Care Level 2

A registration fee of £52.00  is due within four weeks of enrolment if you wish to receive an NCFE certificate on successful completion of your course.

Please note that certificates are issued 3 times per year

Method Of Study

Our courses are fully digitised so you can study on any smart device. Your learning programme is completely flexible so you can study at a pace that suits you. All our content is broken down into bite size chunks to make your learning more manageable and effective.

Method of Assessment

The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give you valuable feedback on. We call these Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). These can all be taken and submitted online.

Course Length Information

The guided learning hours (GLH) for this course is 123 and you can take the course over a maximum of 12 months. If you do not complete within this time them you will need to re-enrol . Extensions are not allowed.

Tutor Support

You will have access to a tutor via email and the student portal who will mark your work, guide you through the course and assist you with any problems you may have. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.

This nationally accredited distance learning qualification in Understanding the Safe Handling of Medicines is designed to provide you with the theoretical knowledge that  you need to help you understand and handle medication within your workplace. The NCFE course covers a wide range of information, best practice and legislation including an introduction to the types of medication that an individual is likely to encounter, explanation of the correct storage and handling of medication as well as legislative requirements for audit process and issues and accountability and responsibility.
