About this course

This course would be ideal for anyone currently working an administrative role in a business environment, or indeed anyone hoping to apply for such a position in future. Students can expect to gain an invaluable set of knowledge and skills, including how to produce formal documents, how to foster professional relationships with co-workers and customers, and how to effectively manage and organise information. In addition, learners will receive a full national qualification that will bolster their CVs and act as a demonstration of their competence in a range of areas.

Course Description

This qualification aims to:

  • provide learners with the underpinning knowledge that is required by employees  working in a range of different business administration environments.
  • develop students’ essential knowledge of how to carry out administrative tasks, such as how to manage information and support events.
  • teach learners how to apply their knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles.
Course Content

Unit 1: Principles of providing administrative services

  • This unit will enable learners to develop the knowledge of a range of administrative support tasks. Learners will be able to describe the different types of meetings and develop an understanding of how to organise travel and accommodation. Learners will be able to describe the different mail services available and understand the impact of delivering poor customer service.

Unit 2: Principles of business document production and information management

  • This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of how to prepare and distribute business documents and identify how information is managed in business organisations.

Unit 3: Understand communication in a business environment

  • The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of the requirements of written and verbal business communication. Learners will be able to identify appropriate body language and tone of voice when communicating verbally.

Unit 4: Understand employer organisations

  • This unit ensures learners understand organisational structures and the differences between private, public and voluntary sectors. Learners will be able to describe the internal and external influences on organisations and why change in the business environment is important.

Unit 5: Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues

  • The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an understanding of the principles of effective team working. Learners will be able to identify what is expected of a buddy and techniques for providing feedback.

Unit 6: Understand how to carry out business administration tasks

  • This unit aims to provide learners with an understanding of how to deal with incoming and outgoing mail, and reception services. Learners will gain knowledge of diary systems management, event organisation and systems for financing in administrator roles.

Unit 7: Principles of customer relationships

  • This unit ensures learners understand organisational structures and the differences between private, public and voluntary sectors. Learners will be able to describe the internal and external influences on organisations and why change in the business environment is important.

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Business Administration

A registration fee of £53.00  is due within four weeks of enrolment if you wish to receive an NCFE certificate on successful completion of your course.

Please note that certificates are issued 3 times per year.

Method of Assessment

The course contains a number of assignments which your tutor will mark and give you valuable feedback on. We call these Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). You need only upload the TMAs to the e-Assessor , not the self-assessment exercises which are also part of the course to help you gauge your progress.

Course Length Information

The guided learning hours (GLH) for this course is 104 and you can take the course over a maximum of 12 months. If you do not complete within this time them you will need to re-enrol . Extensions are not allowed.

Tutor Support

You will have access to a tutor via email who will mark your work, guide you through the course and assist you with any problems you may have. In addition you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process.
